Growing up, Mia Perez has always been supported by a strong family who taught her that education is the key to building the life she wants. They encouraged her to aim high, work hard, and make the most of every opportunity.
Mia’s freshman year at Widener University taught her valuable lessons about responsibility and independence. For the first time, she was responsible for managing her own choices, balancing classes, time, and newfound independence. When she became overwhelmed and began falling behind in anatomy, she was determined not to give up. She sought help, worked harder, and finished the semester strong. This experience taught her the importance of perseverance and determination.
Currently Mia works part-time while attending school, strengthening her discipline and time-management skills. She also takes pride in serving her community, particularly through volunteer work supporting women and children. Her service experiences have shown her what leadership means showing up, giving her time, and making a difference.
Mia Perez is pursuing a career in nursing because she wants to care for others and provide comfort during their most vulnerable moments. While she is still exploring her specialty, she is especially drawn to pediatrics.
Receiving the PCW Excellence in Education Scholarship would ease her financial burden and allow her to focus more fully on her education. In the future, she plans to mentor other students and continue serving her community with compassion, purpose, and dedication.
