Amaya Young
Spelman College
Pediatric Medicine

As a fourth-generation college student, Amaya Young understands the legacy of education and the responsibility of carrying it forward. She was raised to value faith, hard work, and kindness—lessons that have prepared her to pursue higher education not only to achieve her goals, but also to open doors for those who come after her.
Through competitive dance, high school cheer, the National Honor Society, and the Black Student Union, Amaya has developed discipline, leadership, and teamwork. Her community service with the Food Bank of Delaware, Impact Center Church, and other local organizations has strengthened her commitment to serving others with intention and compassion.
The PCW Excellence in Education Scholarship would help reduce the financial burden of college tuition, allowing Amaya to focus on her studies and pursue her career goals in healthcare. She aspires to become a pediatrician, serving children and families with empathy while improving access to quality care.
As a Black woman entering a field where few Delaware pediatricians look like her, Amaya hopes to provide meaningful representation and inspire young people to see themselves reflected in their healthcare providers. She plans to pay it forward through service, mentorship, and compassionate care. A graduate of St. George’s High School, Class of 2026, Amaya is committed to using her education and skills to uplift others and ensure the opportunities she receives from Spelman College create opportunities for those around her.
